bbkRC How To Set up DRIVERnet for the Pocket PC
Overview
DRIVERnet for the Pocket PC is available in bbkRC Drivers Plus V1.3 and later. It allows Personal data Assistants (PDAs) with a WiFi capability to view Live Race Data within the range of a WiFi Network at the trackside. It is also possible to view this data via Laptop Computer with WiFi capability. If a Broadband link to the Internet is available it is possible to access this data using PCs, PDAs and WAP Phones from anywhere in the world.

Installing Apache (HTTP Server)
In addition to bbkRC Drivers Plus you will require a suitable configured HTTP server such as Apache. Apache 2.0.52 for Windows, is available as a free download and can be found here.

Once you have downloaded and installed Apache you need to configure it. This is very simple to do. Click on the Apache HTTP Server 2.0.52 entry in Programs, then Configure Apache Server then Edit the Apache http.conf Configuration File. Notepad will open a large text file. You need to locate the line starting

DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"

This points to the Initial Index file for your Local Intranet. This can be a file of your own design, or you can point it to the Directory you have set up for Live Race Data Directory in DRIVERnet for Pocket PC Setup. E.G.

DocumentRoot "C:/LiveHTML"

Make sure Apache 2 is started, You can set up Apache 2 to start automatically when your PC start up.

Setting up DRIVERnet for Pocket PC
From the Main Menu (left hand side panel) select Setup System and select the "DRIVERnet for Pocket PC" Tab.

Note that the Open Practice directory should be the same as the Live Race Data directory or a Sub Directory of it. These should ALWAYS be local drivers on the Race Control PC. Updating over a LAN will result in the Race Control PC Locking up. Timing of Racing will not be affected but DRIVERnet for Pocket PC will lock up. If you want to send these files to another PC you can use a background file mirroring utility. As yet we have not located a free download for this. WE have been using Peer Software PeerSync (www.peersoftware.com).

If you do not have your own Master Index ensure that Make Master Index is clicked. If anonymous practice is clicked, PT numbers rather than driver names will be shown. The right hand side allows configuration of the Update Interval (how often the files are created) and the Refresh interval (how often the Pocket PC Screen is updated. Setting these to short will overload your PC.

Using DRIVERnet for Pocket PC
For instructions on connecting a Pocket PC to a WiFi Network, consult the documentation that cam with the Pocket PC. On your WiFi connected Pocket PC just enter the PC name of the Pc running Apache 2 into Internet Explorer and you will see the initial Menu Screen.
