AMB20
Warranty and Repairs
The AMB20 system
ceased manufacture in 2000, so if you have any AMB20 equipment
it will be no longer have an AMB-it warranty. That is not
to say that faulty AMB20 (or AMB8800 and AMB8300) equipment
cannot be rectified or replaced.
AMB20 Decoder Problems
If you have an AMB20 Decoder that is faulty, you can send it
to AMB for a repair quotation. Alternatively we may be able to
exchange it for a second hand working AMB20 Decoder. If you have
an AMB8300 or AMB8800 system with AMB20 Converter and some of
these items are faulty we may be able to exchange all your boxes
and cables for a second hand working AMB20 Decoder. Our
ability to do these swaps depends on us having good units in
stock. Contact bbk for details.
AMB20 Transponder Problems
Transponder problems fall into 2 categories Broken
Transponders and Faulty Battery. To test your transponders
charge them for at least 12 and no more than 15 hours. If
the transponder charges and works for a short while then
stops working, it is likely to be a faulty battery. If the
transponder does not work straight off the charger then it has
probably suffered internal damage. Faulty batteries can be
replaced by:

AMB20 Charger Rack
The AMBrc Charge rack is compatible with AMB20 Transponders.
The older AMB20 Charger racks had a 3.3v power supply. Newer
racks use a 12v power supply and contain voltage rectifiers to
reduce this to 3.3v.
AMB20 and AMBrc Transponders should only
be charged using the AMB Charger rack with the correct voltage
power supply.
AMB20 Loop
If the Coax or "Black box" are damaged then we can
supply new BNC Connectors or a new AMBrc Coax with the
"Black box" moulded on to the end. This is an
improvement as it can be buried with no risk of water ingression
damaging the coaxial cable. Water in coaxial cables will
result in very low signal strength and missed laps.
The AMBrc
Coaxial Cable and Loop are compatible with AMB20. Prices here.
The separate "Black Box" is not available.
Transponder Care
Over charging AMB20 Transponders causes damage. There is no
charge management system and just like any NiCad, if you keep
charging it for hours on end, it will fail. We suggest no more
that 15 hours charge then allow the battery to fully
discharge. If you are running a 2 day meeting then you will
have to break this rule. Once in a while it is OK but not week in
week out. If this is a requirement you are advised to upgrade
to AMBrc.
